Certainly you've summoned a cat, or an owl, or some such, but it's only a fey spirit masquerading as one of those creatures and bound to your side through little choice of their own. So I used the old way.
I think what you've made here is quite interesting, in light of that. It's certainly not a shortcut, if a little macabre.
