I did try not to get attached to the boy. It was inevitable someone would punish him for being too much of a handful.
Pickles told me that he would refrain from the affinity contract, so that rules him out as a victim of consequence because of one of the other two dying.

But murder is... it's not like I haven't seen boys die. I've seen all kinds of cruel things... on the streets, in orphanages, in war.
He was a bit of a jerk to some people, but it's hard to think someone would actually kill him over it.
Then again... if it was because of the possession, then it's not as if they can control themselves.
Mr. Boothill did have personal reasons to want to kill Mr. Aventurine, though. So I wonder if it's more of the same? A huge amplification of negative thoughts to an unreasonable degree.
These monsters... for better or worse, they're a part of us. And the overseers listed heightened aggression, survival instincts, and emotional irrationality as potential symptoms.
Not that it couldn't be random, but it might be something to consider... if we end up getting a narrowed suspect list.
Yeah. The ritual they do during the nine hours is a suppression, but I don't think it necessarily means a complete control and containment of the affliction during that time.
