Well - when you did that to Kate, I was thinking that it was an unnecessary risk, given the news we'd received about not lowering the numbers too quickly. But I didn't consider that you knew she had a partner. Part of why you did that was to protect them from her being executed, right?
[she feels like she should have trusted her a little bit more, as difficult as that normally is for her.]
[she nods, twisting a spool of thread in her hand.]
We had multiple reasons to do what we did. Some sentimental, some practical. I think it would be an exaggeration to credit me with the numbers, as I was fully aware the likelihood that whatever other person acted might also have been partnered.
[but she's happy to explain.]
When we first learned about her - I can't say I would have wanted to simply sacrifice her regardless, but the information from the graveyard seemed to suggest keeping her alive and trying to mitigate the damage was at least a reasonable thing to do.
[if the risk is the cult noticing numbers getting too low but they need their numbers low, letting monsters kill doesn't actually. seem like a bad thing.]
But she killed Scien. [they do not have the luxury of losing overseers like that.] Within an hour of being let go from her restraints. We couldn't leave her alive in that state.
I didn't want her to be executed, and I would have felt that way whether or not she had a partner. I wanted control over it, and I wanted the ability to use what I might gain from this to protect her. And I also do care for her partner.
[she listens to all of that, and while there's a spike of upset when she mentions scien, it's not directed at laudna - just a consequence of thinking of him again. she can understand all of that reasoning, and she can't really say she would have done much differently in that position.]
Then - I'm sorry the circumstances pushed you towards that.
[even if she wanted to have some sense of control, she thinks it couldn't have been easy regardless. after a moment, mostly out of curiosity:]

...That's not really necessary.
[she doesn't expect anyone not to have strong feelings about these things.]
no subject
[taking a seat next to her.]
...You've had a difficult day, besides.
no subject
[she's not actually bothered, really, just curious.]
It has not been my favorite day, but I would be surprised to know of anyone who was having a good one.

I imagine that's true.

Will you use it to revive her?
no subject
[reviving her now, when they have to get down to 5 in the end, doesn't sound like a great idea. also let pazu be free.]
no subject
That's wise, I think. And - thank you for explaining.
no subject
[sincerely! it's very nice that vin is always willing to talk it through.]
no subject
...Thank you for not being upset at me for making it more difficult for you two.
[laudna would have had a right to, she thinks.]

[lavi just causing a lot of chaos on purpose.]

[pauses for a moment]
No, never mind. I think that's a bit presumptuous of me.
