It started very small. A few disappearances, some animated furniture, some shadows. We happened to run into a patron, a retired adventurer who was willing to pay us to do a little poking around about some suspicious activity in his city. I don't think he had much of a sense what we were looking for, just that something seemed wrong and a few people had gone missing after poking their nose into it.
We wound up getting involved into a rather large and nasty plot, and our former patron was killed off for poking his nose into it long ago, but we're still in the thick of it, it seems.

[she's not offended.] I might be a bit unusual, but really, I'm quite nice if you get to know me.
[as for their patron.] By that point, it had gotten a bit personal. And he did leave us some funds in his will to keep pursuing it.
