... I once traveled to a place where all of the people were happy. They lived under strange rules, and labored in unfair conditions. Even though they were friendly and generous, and nothing bad happened while I was there... it was really unsettling, and it took a few days to understand why.
It was because they couldn't feel unhappy. Like their minds were trapped in a sort of prison.

I do agree that's the sort of awful twist this sort of prize would usually come with.
I don't have much interest in helping them achieve their aims. They're the reason we're all in this situation to begin with. Only now that their plans have been slightly complicated to they deign to barter with us instead of treat us like livestock.
