[laudna can be found a little later at the haunted house, a ballgown-looking dress spread out on one of the beds as she starts to examine it for rips and wrinkles. also, there's a leech still stuck on her neck and arm and she doesn't seem to have noticed.]
Not personal experience, but I've known a few. There is a fellow who has traveled with us for a while. Not a penny to his name, but he always dresses so fancy, and always acts as though he belongs anywhere he wishes to go. That's how I could tell.

When he spots the dress, he lets out a low whistle. ]
Wow. Is that yours?

[she's a bit startled to be interrupted by a stranger.]
...Indeed, that's my dress. Though it has seen better days, I'm afraid. It could do with some patching and repairs.
[not so much from the swamp so much as generally being worn around while leading a very active d&d lifestyle for a few weeks.]
Still, it is much more ladylike than these plain white dresses, I think.

[ But at the same time, yes he is saying that. ]
Will you be able to mend it yourself?

Where did you acquire such a beautiful dress?
no subject
I commissioned it. Except the corset piece. Imogen bought it for me as a gift, and I embroidered it myself.

[ Love that for her, though he notices her covering her face. ]
Sorry, I didn't mean to embarrass you.
no subject
[she is, a little.]

And then immediately gets hit with depression. ]
It doesn't matter. None of it followed me here. And it's not like there's a shopping center around.

The truly wealthy don't need to have money with them, I think. They simply act rich and everyone believes them.

Speaking from experience?

[ Aventurine would get along with him. ]
You're part of a traveling group, then?
no subject
[a little dismissive. but she nods.]
We're a little group that does odd jobs and the like.

no subject
No. Did not have the luck some of our number had.

[ BECAUSE WHAT ELSE ARE THEY GONNA DO ]
no subject
...I hope so. I've never found it very easy.

It has been nice to talk to you, too. Some people find me a little off-putting, if you can believe it.
no subject
