Sometimes someone who can't talk back is better than someone who can.
[she says this in the most ominous way possible. anyway.]
People don't always take well to me, since I'm a little spooky. A little off. I would try to keep to myself, but even that usually eventually led to me being driven off.
[ she says it very ominously but he kind of tilts his head like hmmm. yeah. fair point. because he is antisocial ]
... People can be pretty harsh to others who "creep them out". [ he says it slowly, like he's thinking of something in particular ] Even when they haven't done anything.
In one of the towns, I met Imogen. She was a bit of an outcast, too. So even though I had to leave, she came with me. And it was easier after that, she could do the talking with people if they didn't want to speak to me and she's very capable.
So she's a people person. [ he understands the need to have a person who actually is good at dealing with people ] You guys join the rest of your group together, then?
Well. Not exactly. I would say I'm more of a people person and she struggles with them, but people react much more favorably to her than they do to me.
[imogen is an introvert but she's not a creepy zombie.]
Yes. We all sort of stumbled together and wound up getting hired to do a bit of investigating around the city.
Yes. Appearance and perhaps my demeanor is something some people find a little strange.
[how could that be, she wonders, bug-eyed and smiling hugely at him.]
It started very small. A few disappearances, some animated furniture, some shadows. We happened to run into a patron, a retired adventurer who was willing to pay us to do a little poking around about some suspicious activity in his city. I don't think he had much of a sense what we were looking for, just that something seemed wrong and a few people had gone missing after poking their nose into it.
We wound up getting involved into a rather large and nasty plot, and our former patron was killed off for poking his nose into it long ago, but we're still in the thick of it, it seems.
You are kinda weird. [ cloud. ] But I've met people who are a lot weirder in a lot worse ways.
[ she might be creepy weird but at least she is not one of the many very cartoony villains of ff7. or like, a mad scientist. maybe. as far as he knows. ]
So you guys decided to keep going even after he got killed? Most people would've bailed after the money ran out.

[ well he can't DISAGREE but agreeing makes him EMBARRASSED so: ]
Glad you guys are getting along. [ no actually saying that is more embarrassing...why did he do it... ]

[how cute...]
I won't let any harm come to her.

[ ... but...? but. ]
But... she likes making friends.

I'm good at making friends. It's on my profile. I made Pâté all on my own.
