[after the npc reveal, laudna can be found sitting out near the pyre on her own, with pâté fluttering nearby. she has her long hair hanging down over her face and she's clearly talking to herself out loud.]
...Still nothing from you? How long are you going to give me the silent treatment? You're useless!
[ he has no right to be offended because he would absolutely turn around and walk the hell away from some messy shit he didn't want to deal with, but he is anyway!! you don't get to just joke about us being bad murderers and then do this!!!! ]
hearing that name again is a punch in the gut. and already knowing that was laudna's world... he has a feeling he knows what this means. it has to, right? it's her memory.
they leave the house, see this series of now familiar scenes, and one after another, the wounds he hadn't thought were all that raw to begin with are opened back up. the town, the castle. that blood-soaked banquet hall where he'd found daan barely alive under the table. that couple meeting his eyes at the party, the way the man in particular looked at him like he was a piece of meat, the heavy air of anxiety, the nauseating blur of blood and screams and pain (which he doesn't think he can delude himself into attributing to a hot girl vampire anymore).
except none of it is through his eyes this time. it's her point of view, the girl with the braids who'd been so nervous, who'd been so much smarter and more observant than he had, who'd disappeared forever as soon as he'd turned his back. he'd thought of her more often than he really should have during all that time he'd spent cooped up alone in his house. he'd always hoped she'd managed to escape — he'd wanted so badly to believe that everyone who'd disappeared was safe somewhere and would come back someday.
wow. that sure didn't happen, did it?
he remembers the sight of the tree when they'd reunited. how it wasn't just the people they knew hanging from it, how there were strangers mixed in among them. had she been hanging there then too? had she already gotten herself down and run away?
maybe she hadn't been there. it wasn't an exact recreation, after all. he'd been there, atsushi had been there. their worlds had been muddled together.
still. fuck.
when it's over, he swallows hard, his mouth dry, and turns to laudna. ]
[she's back at the haunted house after everything. all things considered, she's relatively calm. not happy or anything, but she at least didn't have a huge meltdown and that's progress.]
[ at the amusement park looking up at the ferris wheel! ]
Well— [ a few little chihuahua barks into his hand like he's covering a cough with the accompanying thought GOD THIS IS SO ANNOYING ] —it looks like some other people have gotten on without it completely falling apart, so do you want to try it?
[ todomatsu is dressed in something new today, FINALLY, and has a bunch of other new clothes packed into a bag next to his seat in the tea garden.
when laudna shows up, he'll set his cup down and get up to go hug her. he's been apologizing almost every other time he's done this today, but doesn't bother prefacing it with any disclaimers in this case since he doesn't expect her to mind. ]
Not sure how you're feeling about tea these days, but it doesn't seem like this stuff was spiked with anything, at least.
[she's been swamped, effects tk, but she's sort of huddled somewhere recuperating. she feels bad - miserable, resentful. but she's happy to see totty.]
...A little better, I suppose. I'm glad to see you.
[laudna just seems at a loss for words. she's quiet, not crying or angry or showing inappropriate glee, just lost. she gives totty a wide-eyed, blank expression, holding pâté close.]
[you can find laudna at the pyre after the discussion has died down, still a dark looming column inside her barrier, hard to make out aside from the lanky silhouette with wide shoulder-like wings folded across her back and glowing red eyes.]
[ i guess some beds and stuff might have gotten shifted around a little since we were originally planning on everyone staying there but then the stink happened and we all left forever so it's been unoccupied for almost a week so PROBABLY NOT A LOT HAS CHANGED, though there is an origami shuriken and a half-made origami bird skull around here somewhere.
anyway the stink is gone, thank god. ]
Haha, I guess so! Kind of hard to believe it's actually over.
